"The system is running, so why is the team always fighting fires?" I designed core enterprise systems in Itochu Group's IT division, then moved into web. Whatever the size of the company, I kept running into the same problem.
The cause was rarely just missing systems. Sometimes it was technical: no observability, no safe way to change. Sometimes it was rooted in how decisions get made, or in the shape of the organization. I've worked across both, alongside the team, starting from wherever we could actually change things.
Once the right things are in place, the time lost to incidents goes back into building. Releases speed up, and the business moves. Creating that shift is what I do at Shinagawa Labs.
Separately from consulting, I build the tools I wish existed in the reliability space as open source: pgincident, colref, gomarklint, and more. Before recommending something, I like to build it myself and see how it holds up.
